New release! A Woody Guthrie song for immigrant rights.

Today I am releasing a new recording of an old song. A song called "Deportee (Plane Wreck at Los Gatos)," written by Woody Guthrie with music by Martin Hoffman.

Woody wrote in the song in 1948 in reaction to the dehumanization and racism against Mexican migrants who had perished in a plane crash.

For obvious reasons, the song is more relevant than ever. Earlier this year at a music conference, while listening to Woody's granddaughter talk about the song and play home recordings of him making a demo of it, I felt the need to record a version of the song myself. And then release it with all proceeds going to the cause of immigrant rights. Rights which are under attack here in this country.

And the new recording is out today! The track features John Kruth on recorder, mandocello and harmonica. With Willie Aron on backing vocals. It was produced with Fernando Perdomo and John Kruth at Forward Motion Studios.

Stream and download the track here.

All proceeds from this release will be donated to the Immigrant Defense Fund of the National Day Laborers Organizing Network (NDLON).

Bandcamp allows you to enter in the amount you wish to pay, so if you choose to donate more you are free to do so.

The track is also available to stream on all streaming services. But if you are interested in supporting the cause, the most effective way to do that is to download the song. As many of you know, streaming services do not adequately compensate artists for their music. To put it lightly. Downloads are best!

Please help me share this music. Please help to get the word out. Tell a friend! Post it on Facebook, or wherever you post. I really need help in getting the word out, so we can raise the most money possible.

Thank you! 🙏
